Spicy Lemon Margarita is a sweet, tangy refreshing cocktail with a little heat! Made with just 4 ingredients and an optional rim, beat the heat tonight with this summer margarita!

If you are looking for another refreshing cocktail option, try this Refreshing Cucumber Cocktail with Mint and Lime!

It’s officially less than a week until Christmas and I think mom’s everywhere could use a drink! Is anyone else out there feverishly wrapping presents at 5:00 AM before kids wake up or is that just me? With my son’s daycare closed due to Covid, it has been impossible to get a lot accomplished during the day except for cuddling and playtime 😊

A few weeks ago, I was in New York City for a girls trip. My college friends and I have an annual tradition of getting together every December. It was so fun and refreshing to be with old friends eating, drinking and shopping through New York City! Despite the cold, it is my favorite time of year to be in the city.

We had dinner at La Pecora Bianca on Bryant Park. My friends and I are suckers for homemade pasta and La Pecora did not disappoint! While we waited for our table, we had cocktails. I ordered a dirty martini and my friend ordered a Spicy Limoncello Margarita. I immediately had drink envy and knew that I had to recreate her cocktail when I got home. So, here we go!

What’s in this Spicy Lemon Margarita?!

    • Jalapeno infused tequila
    • Limoncello
    • Lemonade
    • Agave Nectar
    • Sweet and Spicy Margarita Rim

For the jalapeno infused tequila, slice a jalapeno and remove the seeds. Pour tequila into an airtight jar. Use a tequila that you like. I normally use a reposado tequila. Place the jalapeno in a small mason jar. This holds around 8 ounces of liquid which will yield enough tequila for 4 cocktails. Let the jalapeno marinate in the tequila overnight. Remove the jalapeno from the jar and the tequila is ready to go.

The limoncello gives the drink a burst of lemon flavor. The lemonade gives the drink just enough sweetness to balance out the tartness of the limoncello and the spicy tequila. The agave nectar adds an additional sweet kick.

    Sweet & Spicy Margarita Rim

A rim on a margarita glass takes an at home cocktail up a notch in my opinion. They are also so easy to make and store in the refrigerator for when the margarita craving hits. Here is what you will need for the rim:

    • Sea Salt
    • Coarse Sugar
    • Lemon Zest
    • Pinch of Cayenne Pepper

Start by zesting one lemon. Add lemon zest, sugar, salt and cayenne pepper to a food processor and process until smooth.

How to make this Spicy Lemon Margarita?

Making this margarita is super simple (the way I like it). Run a lemon slice around the rim of a glass. Roll glass edges into Sweet and Spicy Margarita Rim. Fill glass with ice.

To an ice filled cocktail shaker, add jalapeno tequila, limoncello, lemonade and agave nectar. Shake, shake, shake to combine. Pour over ice and enjoy!
